
Meet the breeds!
We are currently raising Silver Appleyard, Saxony, Dutch Hookbill, Cayuga, and Buff Ducks.

Saxony
Originating in Germany Albert Franz of Chemitz developed a multi purpose breed in the 1930's. During WWII, many Saxony did not survive, Franz renewed his stock after the war. In 1957 Germany recognized the breed. In the fall of 2000 the breed was admitted into the American Standard of Perfection. The Saxony is a threatened breed according to the Livestock Conservancy. A Saxony drake weighs 8-9lbs, a female weighs 7-8lbs making this breed a great meat breed producing more flavor and less fat. The saxony is active forager and will lay anywhere between 180-240. Our Saxony are hardy, active and used for meat, egg and show purposes.

Dutch Hookbill
Originating in the Netherlands in the 17th - 18th century, and a very unique breed! This breed has a curved bill, is a light breed and has many different colored varieties and patterns. The Dutch Hookbill is one of the rarest duck breeds in the world with less then 500 in global population currently recorded according to the Livestock Conservancy. The Dutch Hookbill weighs 4.5 lbs and can lay anywhere from 100-220 eggs a year. Our Dutch Hookbill are bred to the Dutch standard, as the breed is not recognized in the US, we are preserving this breed and often bring them to shows to get the word out about this critical breed!

Silver Appleyard
Developed in the 1940's by Reginald Appleyard in St. Edmund, England. The Silver Appleyard is a heavy weight breed weighing anywhere between 8-9lbs and lays 220-260 eggs being the best layer of all the heavy weight breeds. A beautiful heritage breed, our Silver Appleyard are hardy, active foragers and large. We raise our Appleyard for meat, eggs and show purposes. The Silver Appleyard is a threatened breed according to the Livestock Conservancy and was recognized by the American Poultry Association in 2000's.

Buff Duck
Created by William Cook of Kent England, the buff duck is a medium breed weighing 6.5-8lbs (drake) 5-6lbs (duck) and laying anywhere between 150-220 eggs in a year. The Buff duck also known as the Orpington Duck is a beautiful creamy buff color. The Buff was recognized by the American Poultry Association in 1914 and is a threatened breed according to the Livestock Conservancy.

Cayuga
Originating in the Cayuga lake in the finger lakes of upstate NY this breed is a beautiful black bird with a beetle green sheen. The cayuga is a medium breed weighing 6.5-8lbs (drake) 6.5-7lbs (duck) and laying anywhere 100-150 eggs a year. The eggs are commonly black and lighten up as the year progresses. The Cayuga was admitted into the American Poultry Association in 1874 and is on the watch list according to the Livestock Conservancy.
